Day 10 – SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities

Race. Color. Gender. Background. Too often, these become borders.

Imagine this: In a crowded jail cell, a man waits months for a trial he cannot afford, arrested for stealing food to feed his children. Across town, a politician accused of stealing billions walks free—on bail, with lawyers, with connections. An innocent vendor is arrested for selling without a permit, while a contractor who pocketed flood-control funds walks away with awards. This is not justice. This is inequality—raw, real, and raging in 2026.

Black is a color. White is also a color. Neither defines a person, stereotypes do.This is also an inequality: unseen barriers that decide who gets a chance, who gets heard, and who is left behind.

Inequality threatens long-term social and economic development, harms poverty reduction, and destroys people’s sense of fulfillment and self-worth. Globally, progress since 2015 has been uneven; on average, 12% of people still live below half the median income, with the highest inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the Philippines, poverty incidence fell to a historic low of 9.7% in 2025, down from 15.5% in 2023, lifting about 6.5 million Filipinos out of poverty. Yet around 11 million Filipinos remain classified as poor, and gaps between the richest and poorest remain wide.

Without equality, societies fracture. When wealth and opportunity are concentrated, trust erodes and progress stalls. Fair distribution of resources, social protection, and equal opportunity build resilient, inclusive societies. At Colegio de Kidapawan, SDG 10 calls us to recognize: That this private institution is not a privilege for a few, but a school extended to many. We must work to ensure that every person, regardless of background, has the chance to succeed.
